26 teachers of social sciences and humanities of Rivne region had the opportunity to listen to the following lectures:
Lecture 1. Culture of Remembrance (lecturer – head of NGO “Mnemonics” Maksym Gon).
The lecturer spoke about the methodological features of defining the concept of "culture of remembrance" and the main approaches to its formation in the post-totalitarian countries of Europe. In particular, on the example of post-Franco Spain, Maksym Gon demonstrated the peculiarities of the confrontation between official memory and counter-memories, the influence of the latter on the formation of memory policy in democratic societies.
Lecture 2. Constructing memorial spaces (expert of NGO “Mnemonics” Petro Dolhanov).
The lecturer introduced the participants to the peculiarities of the culture of memory in modern Germany (with a focus on the role of civil society institutions in modern practices of commemorating Holocaust victims), a number of alternative monuments dedicated to the tragic pages of European and Ukrainian history. The lecture ended with a description of the training, which allows the use of monuments and memorials in teaching history in schools.
Lecture 3. Educational tools of memory culture (expert of NGO “Mnemonics” Nataliia Ivchyk).
The lecture was devoted to the use of educational tools, which have been created by NGO "Mnemonics", in the process of teaching history. In particular, the lecturer introduced the participants to the possibilities of using old photographs, short documentary videos (including those created by NGO “Mnemonics”), board games and a virtual map in the educational process.
Background: the seminar was conducted by experts of NGO "Mnemonics" within the framework of the project "Shared Memory" with the support of Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung in Ukraine.
